Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment the number of women employed in each of the following grades in each local authority, County Engineer, Deputy County Engineer, Senior Engineer, Senior Executive Engineer, Executive Engineer, County Architect, Deputy County Architect, [943] Senior Architect, Senior Executive Architect, Executive Architect, County Planner, Deputy County Planner, Senior Planner, Senior Executive Planner, Executive Planner; and the proportion which the number of female employees represents of the total of each grade.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. M. Smith): Staffing returns provided by local authorities to my Department have not, heretofore, provided details on a gender basis and, accordingly, the information requested is not available in my Department.

Local authorities have been asked to include a gender breakdown in their staffing returns for end-1992 but all of these will not be available for some time.
