Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the sections of the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990 which have yet to be brought into legal force; the amount of money allocated for 1992 to implement the sections of this Act already in force; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

[271] Minister for Health (Dr. O'Connell): It is my intention to bring the Nursing Homes Act into effect as soon as possible. The drafting of Regulations which are required to bring the Act into effect is at an advanced stage.

As the Deputy will be aware, additional funding totalling £9 million has been invested over the past three years in services for the elderly.
