259. Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the number of public patients on hospital waiting lists in the North Eastern Health Board area, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Health (Dr. O'Connell): The latest information available to my Department indicates that there are 789 public patients on hospital waiting lists in the North Eastern Health Board area. This should be viewed in the context of over 42,000 in-patients and day patients treated in the North Eastern Health Board area in 1991.
