Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Import Charges.

121. Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Finance if he will review the decision to disallow exemption from import charges in respect of a motor vehicle sought by a person (detail supplied) in County Cork who had lived and worked in the UK for 16 months, had paid income tax and poll tax charges to the UK authorities and claims therefore that his place of normal residence during that period was the United Kingdom.

Minister for Finance (Mr. B. Ahern): I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that they have reviewed the case in question and are satisfied that both excise duty and value added tax were properly chargeable and that no change in their decision is warranted.
