101. Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the number of press releases issued by Defence Forces headquarters since 1 January 1991.

Minister for Defence (Mr. Wilson): Within the Defence Forces, responsibility for media communications rests with the Defence Forces press office. [157] While a precise count of the number of statements issued is not maintained, it is estimated that in an average year, the Defence Forces press office would issue approximately 250 formal written press releases. In addition, verbal inquiries from the news media are answered on a daily basis.
