365. Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if she will initiate steps with the relevant Departments to speed up the process of granting work permits and temporary registration for doctors especially in view of the delays being experienced in the Departments of Labour and Justice.

Minister for Health (Mrs. O'Rourke): I am not aware of any delays being experienced by doctors seeking temporary registration with the Medical Council and neither I nor the council have received any complaints from applicants. As regards delays in processing applications for work permits or visas, I will bring the Deputy's concerns to the attention of my colleagues, the Minister for Labour or Justice, as appropriate.
