Written Answers. - Motorway Access.

336. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he is prepared, following his recent meeting with public representatives and community interests from Celbridge, County Kildare, to accede to the request of the deputation for the people of Celbridge for direct access to the Kilcock/Leixlip motorway at a point off the Maynooth/Celbridge road; if he has made a final decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Environment (Dr. O'Hanlon): The question of providing an additional access to the motorway would only arise in the event of Kildare County Council preparing a motorway scheme in respect of such an access. Any such scheme would have to be the subject of a public local inquiry, at which evidence on all aspects of the proposal would have to be presented, before there could be a decision by me on the motorway scheme. Having regard to this quasi-judicial function, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this time.
