Written Answers. - Limerick Hospitals.

233. Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health the number of beds lying idle in the following hospitals due to lack of resources (1) Regional Hospital, Limerick, (2) Orthopaedic Hospital, Croom, County Limerick, (3) St. Ita's Hospital, Newcastle West, County Limerick, (4) St. John's Hospital, Limerick and (5) Maternity Hospital, Limerick; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Health (Mrs. O'Rourke): The following is the information requested by the Deputy:

A. St. Ita's Hospital, Newcastle West, nil; St. John's Hospital, Limerick, nil; Regional Maternity Hospital, Limerick, Nil.

B. Regional Hospital, Limerick, 74. Thirty-two of the beds are not in use as they are being upgraded.

C. Due to refurbishment 23 beds in the orthopaedic hospital, Croom, are not in use.

In both these cases, grants were approved by my Department and all work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
