111. Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the amount of funding provided for in the 1991 budget, in relation to the salaries of caretakers and/or secretaries appointed to secondary schools which has been expended to date; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): My Department have been allocated £2.409 million in the 1991 budget for the employment of secretaries in secondary schools of which £1.584 million has been spent at the end of September 1991. There is no such separate allocation for caretakers in secondary schools. Provision for these staff is included in the overall capitation to secondary schools which in 1991 is £31 million. Specific details are not available regarding schools' expenditures on caretakers.
