90. Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if she will consider having parents and teachers represented on the boards of vocational education committees.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): Members of vocational education committees are elected by the relevant local rating authority in accordance with the terms of the Vocational Education Act, 1930. Under section 8 (4) of that Act, a local authority shall have regard to the interest and experience in education of the person proposed for vocational education committee membership.

A parent and-or teacher representative may, therefore, be elected to a vocational education committee if the local authority considers it appropriate.
