169. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health whether the position of chairman of the Rules and Interpretation Committee of the Common Contract is vacant; the length of time this vacancy has existed; when he proposes to fill the post; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): The position of chairman of the Interpretation Committee on Common Contract has been vacant since Mr. Justice O'Hanlon resigned in June 1989. The [856] whole question of third party adjudication is being considered in the current negotiations as a revision of the common contract.
