159. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if he will outline in respect of 1990, or the latest year for which figures are available, the total number of babies born to (a) mothers who were not in a stable relationship with the father at the time of the birth and (b) mothers who were not married at the time of the birth; and if he will further outline the classification by age of mother in each case.

In relation to the second part, the most recent data on the numbers of births occurring outside marriage refers to 1989. The following table sets out this information by age of mother.
