Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to introduce a medical audit in general practitioners surgeries; if he will outline the discussions he has held with the Irish College of General Practitioners on this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon) Rory O'Hanlon Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): As the Deputy may be aware, the capitation contract for general practitioners and the recent GMS Review report provided for the employment of practice support doctors. The functions of these doctors include, inter alia, the provision of support in improving the overall performance of general practitioners and in giving assistance to any practitioners who may have difficulties in meeting the requirements of their GMS contracts. Officials of my Department met recently with the Irish College of General Practitioners to discuss the provisions of appropriate training for these doctors, when appointed.
