Dáil Éireann - Volume 407 - 18 April, 1991

Written Answers. - High Court Cases.

28. Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Finance the number of High Court cases in which the Minister for Finance of the day was named as defendant in court proceedings in each of the last ten years; the issues involved in such proceedings; the number of such cases successfully defended by him; the number of such cases in which the plaintiff was successful; the amount of legal costs incurred by the State in each year in respect of such cases; and the amount of legal costs paid out by the State in each year pursuant to orders for costs against him.

Minister for Finance (Mr. A. Reynolds): I do not consider that compiling the information requested by the Deputy would serve any useful public purpose. It would require an inordinate amount of official time and divert staff resources and time from more urgent and necessary work.
