38. Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if it is his intention to discontinue funding Muintir Na Tíre for the community alert programme.

Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): Officials of my Department met with representatives of Muintir na Tíre in December last to discuss proposals to extend their community alert system for the elderly to other parts of the country. Muintir na Tíre have since made a formal application for assistance from the national lottery for this purpose and this is under consideration.
