Written Answers. - Paid Parking Systems.

74. Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are different systems of paid parking in operation in provincial towns around the country; his views on the confusion and frustration which this causes especially for tourists and visitors; and if he will give consideration to the introduction of a standard type system of charge that would be transferable between these provincial towns.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Flynn): There are basically two types of paid parking systems in operation, disc parking and parking meters. The latter are in operation in Dublin only.

Discs purchased in one local authority area are not valid for any other area. I am examining, in consultation with local authorities and the Gardaí, the point referred to in the final part of the question.
