Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers for Dublin Schools.

188. Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request for a remedial teacher from the primary schools of Loreto, Harold Boys and St. Patrick's national schools of Dalkey, County Dublin; her response to this request; and the criteria for the allocation of remedial teachers.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): Remedial teaching posts are allocated on the basis of priority of need.

To date the schools in question have not been among those to which it has been possible for my Department to allocate the services of a remedial teacher.

I sanctioned 30 additional remedial teaching posts for primary schools during the last school year and these posts have been allocated on the basis of priority of need. I will be keeping the question of appointment of further remedial teachers under review.
