Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 who was informed that she needed immediate heart surgery after hospitalisation in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 following a second major heart attack is now on a waiting list of two to three years at the Mater Hospital where only two heart operations per week are being carried out.

Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): I would like to explain that the scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical decision of the consultant concerned. I have made enquiries from the Mater Hospital who have informed me that the [225] person concerned was placed on the cardiac surgery waiting list in June 1990 and will be admitted in the near future.
