70. Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason he has not yet appointed the members to the board of An Bord Glas; where its headquarters will be located; and when will a chief executive take up duty.

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. O'Kennedy): The members of the board of An Board Glas will be appointed at an early date.

It will be a matter for the board to decide on the location of its headquarters in accordance with the terms of Article 1 of the Schedule to the Bord Glas Act, 1990.

A chief executive has been appointed with effect from 22 March.

I should add for the Deputy's information that the work commenced by the interim Bord Glas continued after the establishment of the statutory board in March and, as a result, various developments have taken place. For example, the board has organised a tomato quality monitoring programme which will run to October; it has been involved in a tomato promotion campaign; it has worked in conjunction with the Irish Farmers Association in the appointment of a potato market co-ordinator; it has organised meetings with various interests in the horticultural industry; it has grant-aided an exhibition of organic produce; and the part-time employment of a marketing development officer has been continued.
