Barrett asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate the necessary resources to Dún Laoghaire Corporation, County Dublin to enable them carry out immediate repairs and refurbishment to old housing stock in their ownership. Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Mr. Connolly) Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Mr. Connolly) 1138 Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Mr. Connolly): The management and maintenance, including repairs, of their dwellings are matters for the local authority and do not require ministerial approval. Such works would be funded by the authority from its own resources, which includes their rental income and the revenue portion, 40 per cent, of the proceeds of tenant purchase schemes. Approved projects under the remedial works scheme, under which the housing authority may carry out major refurbishment of certain estates, come within the Public Capital Programme. It is a matter for the authority to formulate such proposals and to indicate relative priorities, within their allocation, when [1138] proposals are being made to the Department. This year the sum of £450,000 has been allocated to the corporation under the scheme.
