98. Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Marine the plans he has for angling development on Lough Ree; and if he will indicate the number of staff employed full time on protection and development work on this mixed fishery.

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Wilson): The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board in accordance with section 11 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, have statutory responsibility for the management, conservation, protection, development and improvement of fisheries in the Shannon region and as such the preparation of proposals for development of fisheries in the region is a matter for the board having regard to the resources at their disposal. Fishing rights in the Shannon system are vested in the ESB under the Shannon Fisheries Acts.
