36. Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the IDA [1033] is allowed to grant-aid State-sponsored bodies in projects where they are creating employment.

Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. O'Malley): Under the Industrial Development Act, 1986 the IDA are empowered to grant-aid industrial undertakings, whether State-sponsored or not, provided they satisfy the criteria for assistance set out in the Act.

A number of employment-creating projects by State-sponsored bodies have been assisted by the IDA to-date.
