Minister for Defence (Mr. Lenihan) Minister for Defence (Mr. Lenihan)
Minister for Defence (Mr. Lenihan): Arrangements for the return of weapons from Lebanon to Ireland by Naval Service vessel in March-April 1990 were not implemented as the planned voyage did not take place because of fishery protection commitments. It is hoped to bring the weapons back by Naval Service vessel in September-October 1990.
It is not the practice to disclose details of the cost of items of defensive equipment.
The question of the future of the weapons will be determined on their return to this country, in the light of their condition and the needs of the Defence Forces.
