Dáil Éireann - Volume 398 - 22 May, 1990

Written Answers. - Mountjoy Prison Visitors.

165. Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the fact that he has appointed only half the normal number of prison visitors to Mountjoy in 1990, he intends to take up the recommendation in the Whitaker report that some members should be nominated by County Courts, health and welfare bodies; and if he will take steps to implement the other proposed changes in the operation and structure of visiting committees detailed in this report.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Burke): I am examining the recommendations referred to. Any decision which may be made concerning the operation and structure of visiting committees will be announced in the usual way.
