[1184] 97. Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine if he will assist in the essential repair work for Roundstone pier, County Galway, in view of the fact that it was damaged by the heavy storms of 1988-89 and that it is of great architectural and historic importance, having been designed by Alexander Nimmo in 1822; and if he will give details of the plans, if any, he has for this construction.

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Wilson): Maintenance of Roundstone pier is a matter for Galway County Council. However, following a request for assistance from the council to my Department, an engineering report in the matter has been sought.
