Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

79. Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the number of remedial teachers who are employed by her Department in County Meath.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): In relation to primary schools, there are 26 such teachers giving a remedial education service to 47 such schools in County Meath.

In the case of post-primary schools the information requested by the Deputy is as follows: secondary schools, two ex-quota remedial teachers; community and comprehensive schools, one ex-quota remedial teacher; vocational schools, two ex-quota remedial teachers. County Meath Vocational Education Committee also employs one remedial guidance teacher in an ex-quota capacity.

Remedial teachers may be employed within the quota by individual schools, but my Department's records would not readily identify such teachers.
