Dáil Éireann - Volume 396 - 22 February, 1990

Written Answers. - Number of Women Employed.

75. Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of women employed in his Department at the end of 1989; if he will give a breakdown of that number on a grade by grade basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods): There were 2,241 women employed in my Department at the end of 1989, representing 61.5 per cent of the staff serving and the breakdown by grade is set out on a separate chart which I will make available to the Deputy.

I am particularly pleased to note that, since 1986, there has been an increase of 43 per cent in the female representation [460] serving in the general service management grades from higher executive officer upwards.
