219. Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice the number of convictions recorded by the courts in 1988 in respect [2388] of offenders who were on bail at the time such offence was committed.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Burke): I am informed by the Garda authorities that in 1988 1,490 convictions were recorded for crimes committed by offenders who were on bail at the time such crimes were committed. The number of offenders involved is not readily available and could not be obtained without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources.
