54. Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the (I) EC and [477] (II) OECD countries which have a statutory national minimum wage; and the date of its introduction.

Minister for Labour (Mr. B. Ahern): On the basis of information readily available the following countries have a statutory national minimum wage: Australia, Canada, France, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, United States. The year of introduction varies from the early 1900s to the mid-seventies.
