Mr. R. Bruton Mr. R. Bruton
76. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of the spot price for home heating oil during the each of the past 12 months; the pre-tax retail price of home heating oil in Ireland over the same period; and whether the margin being taken in Ireland by the distributors of home heating oil has moved in such a way as to indicate uncompetitive practices.
Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. O'Malley) Desmond J. O'Malley
Minister for Industry and Commerce (Mr. O'Malley): Price control generally was abandoned in 1986 and with it the structures for collecting and analysing a wide range of information.
At present information is collected which enables a maximum price to be fixed, at wholesale and retail level, on premium petrol and auto-diesel. I do not have similar data in relation to home heating oil which is not subject to statutory price control.
