Written Answers. - Wildlife Act Amendment.

73. Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider altering the Wildlife Act, 1976 to give the Wildlife Service power to purchase areas important because of their geology or geomorphology.

74. Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the establishment of nature reserves to protect areas because of their geology or geomorphology; whether he will provide adequate finance to ensure that personnel with expert knowledge of geology and/or geomorphology are available to supervise the conservation of these important areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Finance (Mr. A. Reynolds): I propose to take Questions Nos. 73 and 74 together.

A proposal to extend the protection to sites of scientific interest because of their geological and physiological features relating to wildlife is being considered in the context of amendments to the Wildlife Act, 1976. Appropriate personnel to implement the Wildlife Act in all its aspects will be available.
