Dáil Éireann - Volume 388 - 13 April, 1989

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) School.

[1520] 46. Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education the reason St. Peter Apostle Junior School, Neilstown, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 is to lose two experienced teachers for the school year 1989; if, in view of the severe social problems in the area, she will reclassify the school as disadvantaged, if she will sanction the retention of these posts; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The enrolment at this school has been falling for the past five years, with a consequent reduction in staff.

Example:

September 1984 — average enrolment 570; September 1988 — average enrolment 367.

However the circumstances of the school will be considered if posts under the disadvantage scheme become available.
