Dáil Éireann - Volume 388 - 12 April, 1989 Written Answers. - Military Museum. Mr. Quinn Mr. Quinn 37. Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence if he has any proposals to provide for the establishment of an Irish military museum based on the old Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, or in any other similar location adjacent to large centres of population; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Defence (Mr. Noonan, Limerick West) Michael J. (Limerick West) Noonan 1042 Minister for Defence (Mr. Noonan, Limerick West): The Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park was taken over by the Office of Public Works in July 1988. That [1042] office intends to carry out a feasibility study on the restoration of the fort with a view to opening it to the public. It has not, however, been decided to locate a military museum there. The question of establishing a military museum has been under consideration for some time. Having regard to the nature of the undertaking and the substantial resources which would be required an early decision is unlikely. Dáil Éireann 388 Written Answers. Military Museum.
