91. Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her proposals on the future of educational facilities in Mountmellick, County Laois, in particular, the proposed amalgamation of St. Mary's College and Mountmellick Vocational School; and when it is envisaged that works on the proposed community school will commence, having regard to the deterioration of existing facilities.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The development of post-primary facilities in Mountmellick will be by way of a single community school for the centre resulting from the amalgamation of St. Mary's College and the vocational school.

Architectural planning of the project has reached Stage 2 (outline sketch scheme) and is currently being examined in my Department. However, it is not possible to indicate when construction work will commence as the rate at which any such project may advance is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.
