69. Mr. Desmond asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost to the Exchequer of the PRSI Class A tax allowance in the current year.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Reynolds): The cost to the Exchequer of the PRSI allowance is estimated at £84 million for the 1988-89 tax year. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not available which would enable the cost of the allowance in [2048] respect of Class A contributors to be estimated separately.
