244. Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education in respect of certain schools (details supplied) in Dublin if she will give (1) the number of pupils registered on or before 30 September 1988, (2) the number of teachers employed by that school on or before 30 September 1988, (3) the number of pupils registered on or before 30 September 1987 and (4) the number of teachers employed on or before 30 September 1987; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke)
Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following table, which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.
The enrolment figures given are the actual enrolments on the dates in question, unless otherwise stated; the 1988 figures, where available, are provisional, and are subject to verification, in particular those marked with an asterisk (*). Where no actual figures are available, the average enrolment for the September quarter are given instead, indicated by (av.). In the case of one school, number 12 on the list, neither the actual enrolment nor the average enrolment have yet been returned by the school authorities to my Department. The enrolments stated do not include pupils enrolled in special classes, where these exist.
The number of teachers given is the basic staffing, and includes the principal, assistants and any ex-quota assistants resulting from amalgamation or from inclusion of the school in the disadvantaged areas scheme. Remedial and special class teachers are not included in these figures.
Schools numbers 5 and 6 on the list share a concession post under the disadvantaged areas scheme; this is indicated as .5 of a teacher in each school.
