Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if the statement in a letter (details supplied) from the Irish Embassy in Washington to the World Society for the Protection of Animals that the release of hares to the wild is strictly supervised by officers of the Forestry and Wildlife Service is based on any specific regulations; and, if not, the basis for the statement.

Minister for Finance (Mr. MacSharry): The statement in the letter from the Irish Embassy in Washington to the World Society for the Protection of Animals that the release of hares to the wild is strictly supervised by officers of the Forest and Wildlife Service is not based on any regulations. As indicated in the letter referred to the information contained therein was not supplied by my Department.
