Dáil Éireann - Volume 378 - 01 March, 1988

Written Answers. - International Fund for Ireland.

75. Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Irish Government are consulted under Article 3 of the [1117] bilateral agreement of 18 September 1986 constituting the International Fund for Ireland, to ascertain if individual applications are consistent with this country's economic and social policies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Lenihan): Article 3 of the agreement to establish the International Fund for Ireland provides that disbursements from the fund “shall be consistent with the economic and social policies and priorities of the respective Governments”.

It is open to either Government to advise the board of the fund that support for a particular project would not be consistent with its economic and social policies and priorities.
