61. Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Formula Shell has been withdrawn from the market in Denmark and Norway due to links with valve damage in certain cars; and if he has investigated the implications of this move for the Irish market.

Minister for Energy (Mr. R. Bruke): I have seen the reports to which the Deputy's question refers. The relative technical merits of different brands of petrol or the standards with which petrol should comply are not matters relevant to my Department. I understand that as a precautionary measure, Irish Shell are voluntarily withdrawing Formula Shell from leaded petrol until further notice.
