Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the category A status of persons (details supplied) who are at present in prison in Long Lartin prison; and the action, if any, he intends taking to have that category status removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Lenihan): I understand that at least every 12 months the Home Office review the category A status of prisoners and that a prisoner is not maintained in this category for longer than is necessary. For the past year the Embassy has been endeavouring, and will continue to endeavour, to have the category A status of the persons concerned changed to a lesser category.
