[1648] 255. Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education if the operation of regional technical colleges will be improved by the removal of these colleges from the control of vocational education committees; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): Examination of the position of the regional technical colleges under the Vocational Education Act, 1930 with a view to giving them a greater measure of operational autonomy is ongoing in my Department. It is my intention, however, that they should be retained within the VEC structure.
