Written Answers. - Incubated Eggs.

111. Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the way in which he ensures that hatchery clears eggs are destroyed or used in animal feed, rather than for human consumption, directly or in the bakery trade; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. O'Kennedy): Under EC Regulations, trade in incubated eggs for human consumption has been banned from 1 January 1987. Incubated eggs must be marked individually with indelible ink and inspectors of my Department regularly visit poultry hatcheries to monitor operations and inspect records.
