89. Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement regarding the serious coastal erosion that is occurring at Ballybunion beach, County Kerry; and the plans, if any, he has to take corrective action to prevent further damage occurring.

Minister for Finance (Mr. MacSharry): Kerry County Council submitted to the Commissioners of Public Works proposals for a coast protection schemes at Yellow Point, Ballybunion, in accordance with the Coast Protection Act, 1963.

The commissioners have advised the council that a statutory determination in accordance with the Act will not be made until such time as an adequate prohibitory order, to prevent the removal [3390] of beach material in the area has been obtained and enforced by the council.
