217. Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education the number of secondary [986] and vocational schools which have undergone any of the following forms of rationalisation since the 1980-81 school year, (a) secondary school closure; (b) secondary school amalgamation with vocational school to become community school; (c) secondary school amalgamation with vocational schools to become community college; (d) secondary school assimilation into VEC system as community college; (e) vocational school closure; (f) secondary school alone becoming a community school; (g) vocational school alone becoming a community school; and (h) vocational school becoming a secondary school.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The information is as follows:—(a) secondary school closures, 9; (b) secondary school amalgamation with vocational school to become a community school, 1; (c) secondary school amalgamation with vocational school to become a community college, 1; (d) secondary school assimilation into VEC system as community college, none; (One secondary school has, however, been absorbed into a vocational school and one secondary school has become a vocational school.) (e) vocational school closures, 4; (f) seconday school alone becoming a community school, 2; (g) vocational school along becoming a community school, none; (h) vocational school becoming a secondary school, none.
