122. Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, he has to provide adequate boats for fishing bailiffs patrolling offshore and dealing with salmon fishermen using trawlers to fish illegally for salmon in our waters.

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Daly): Considerable finance has been provided to the fisheries boards since their inception towards the purchase of protection vessels. The provision of finance towards the purchase of additional vessels would have to be considered in the light of curbs on public expenditure generally.
