Dáil Éireann - Volume 373 - 03 June, 1987

Written Answers. - Appointment of Vocational School Teachers.

297. Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if her Department will sanction the appointment of a maths-science teacher in September 1987 at An Taonas Lán Ghaeilge, Tralee community school, Clash, County Kerry, to ensure that the curriculum can be covered through Irish up to leaving certificate level; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): The appointment of vocational teachers and their assignment to individual vocational schools is primarily a matter for the vocational education committee concerned.

For the purpose of servicing the courses conducted by committees my Department authorise an allocation of teaching posts each year. This allocation is made on a committee-wide basis and not in respect of individual schools. The allocation in respect of the 1987-88 school year is under consideration at present in my Department.
