Dáil Éireann - Volume 373 - 03 June, 1987 Written Answers. - Teaching Staff Allocation. Mrs. Hussey Mrs. Hussey 402 291. Mrs. Hussey asked the Minister for Education the net increase in teaching posts provided for in the Estimates for 1987 for (a) secondary schools, (b) [402] vocational schools, (c) community schools and (d) comprehensive schools indicating for each sector (1) the number of remedial teachers and (2) the number of guidance teachers included. Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): Provision for post-primary teachers' pay is included in Subheads A1, A2 and D1 of the Vote for Post-Primary Education. The increase in the 1987 provision over the 1986 out-turn is attributable to factors other than increased teaching numbers, such as incremental progression, carryover costs of pay increases and increased PRSI costs. The teaching staff allocations for the post-primary sector in respect of the 1987-88 school year are currently under consideration. Pending finalisation of the allocations, it is not feasible to indicate the net increase in teaching posts in 1987-88 over the current figure. It should be borne in mind in this connection that the teaching staff allocations for the vocational, community and comprehensive sectors are given in wholetime teacher equivalent units. There are no proposals for the allocation of additional remedial and guidance posts in 1987-88. Miss Hussey Miss Hussey 292. Miss Hussey asked the Minister for Education of the 100 net additional teaching posts in national schools provided for in the Estimates for 1987 (a) the number of new posts for remedial teachers and (b) the number of new posts in schools in disadvantaged areas. Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke) Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke): Thirty new remedial posts have been appointed since 1 January, 1987 and a further 27 posts, as between remedial and disadvantaged area and other posts, may be filled from the diocesan panel in September next.
