Written Answers. - County Laois Funding.

121. Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the serious financial crisis at present being experienced by the Town Commissioners of Portlaoise and Mountmellick, County Laois; the immediate proposals, if any, he has for short term funding of these bodies from central Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Flynn): The most recent abstracts of accounts available for the Portlaoise and Mountmellick Town Commissioners show their financial positions to be reasonably satisfactory and I understand that the estimates recently adopted by both bodies adequately provide for the services which the commissioners provide in both towns.
