Dáil Éireann - Volume 372 - 14 May, 1987 Written Answers. - Midland Paediatrician Post. Mr. Cowen Mr. Cowen 66. Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Health if the vacant post in the Midland Health Board for paediatricians will be filled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon) Rory O'Hanlon 2076 Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon): The Midland Health Board is proceeding [2076] with the filling of a vacant permanent post of paediatrician at Portlaoise for which the Local Appointments Commission have recently recommended a candidate. An application for a second permanent post of paediatrician at Portlaoise, in replacement for a post which has become vacant, is currently being processed in accordance with established procedures. The filling of posts by health boards is, in the first instance, a matter for the appropriate board having regard to the priority attached to the post by the board, its ability to fund the post within its approved non-capital allocation and the arrangements it is making to meet the Government's requirements on staffing levels. If these conditions are met, I will favourably consider applications from health boards to fill such posts on a permanent basis. Dáil Éireann 372 Written Answers. Midland Paediatrician Post.
