Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the request for better facilities and extra accommodation for Cuillacraun national school, Crossmolina, County Mayo, in view of the serious problems there. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): The Deputy's question is taken to refer to the two-teacher national school at Cuillagurrain, County Mayo. A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of a scheme of improvement works at this school, for execution by the school authorities in consultation with the local Office of Public Works staff. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the up-to-date position in relation to the extension to Currabaggan national school, County Mayo; the date the contract will be signed; and when building will commence. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): My Department has completed its examination of the tenders for the proposed extension to Currabaggan national school, County Mayo. It will not be possible to set a date for the placing of a contract for the project until the 1987 capital allocation for national schools building has been settled. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister [255] for Education if he is in a position to state when tenders will be sought for extensions to St. Muredach's College, Ballina, County Mayo. The question of authorising the invitation of tenders cannot arise for consideration until this documentation has been received and found to be in order. Mr. Calleary Mr. Calleary 454. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the up-to-date position concerning the new national school at Foxford, County Mayo; and the proposed date for tendering and accepting of a tender. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): The contract documents for the building of a new national school at Foxford, County Mayo have now been prepared. My Department will at the earliest opportunity be in communication with the school authorities regarding the invitation of tenders for the project. It is not possible at this stage to say when a tender would be accepted. Mr. Calleary Mr. Calleary 455. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the present position in relation to the new Ballycastle national school in view of the conditions that exist in the existing building. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): A sketch scheme for the proposed new national school at Ballycastle, County Mayo, has been prepared by my Department's professional staff and referred to the chairman of the school's board of management for purposes of obtaining local authority planning permission. A grant will be formally sanctioned towards the cost of the project when agreement has been reached with the school authorities regarding an appropriate local contribution towards the cost. 256 [256] When these matters have been finalised, the next stage of architectural planning will be the preparation of the contract documents. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education when a contract will be placed for necessary extensions and improvements to Crossmolina girls' national school, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the situation there. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): My Department has approved plans for, and has sanctioned a grant towards the cost of, an extension to Crossmolina girls' national school, County Mayo. The detail design work is at present being undertaken by the school's own architect and the submission of working drawing for examination by my Department is awaited. The question of placing a contract does not arise as yet, and I am not in a position to say when this will take place. An application by the school for a grant towards the cost of improvements to the existing building is under consideration, and my Department will communicate a decision in the matter as soon as possible to the school authorities. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position in relation to the request from Mayo VEC for extensions to Lacken Cross vocational schoos; and if he will make a statement on when it is expected that building will commence there. Mr. Calleary asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement in relation to the apparent stalemate concerning the extension to Crossmolina vocational school, County Mayo; and if [257] he is in a position to state when sanction will be given to proceed to tender. Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney) Minister for Education (Mr. Cooney): My Department has recently completed examination of the developed sketch scheme proposals submitted in respect of the extension to Crossmolina vocational school. There has been no avoidable delay in this examination. A letter will issue shortly to the County Mayo Vocational Education Committee outlining a basis for proceeding to the next stage of the design process. The question of when tenders may be invited cannot arise for consideration until the design process has been satisfactorily completed. Mr. Calleary Mr. Calleary 459.
